Wrote my first scene from my first (still unfinished) play (“Concert Date”) with significant coaching and coaxing from Laurel Wetzork and much support from Lydia Sbityakov of Cary Playwrights’ Forum. Performance of this scene was part of one of CPF’s first productions but I was much too anxious to attend and so, instead, watched the video of the performance afterwards from the safety of my home. Thanks to Laurel’s expert direction and the incredible work of the fine actors (Jaret Preston and Noelle Barnard), the performance of my short piece had gone well and, thus, I continued to succumb to the illusion that my writing more plays would be a good idea. I have since written and directed several shorts plays that have been part of CPF productions. I seem oddly compelled to almost always include some sort of Foo Fighter’s reference in my work but who knows why other than I happen to like their music.
I am scared to death to produce but feel I probably need to learn. I should also probably make an attempt to submit some of my work for consideration to be published but I’m not sure when I’ll be ready to hear what a publisher would have to say.
Heather acted as Secretary for the CPF Board.
